Tips

Create New Book

Click "+" icon on top toolbar.

In "Add New Book" screen, type book title and author.

Select "Fixed Layout/Landscape/Portrait/Square" for layout type and change size if you want.

Click "Use Default Size" to change size back to default at anytime.

Finally click Save button.

Edit Cover Image

After opening the book, click "More" icon on the toolbar and then click "Cover Image".

In cover editor, click "Text" icon on the toolbar to add text, click "Image" icon to add image.

Add New Page

Click + button on the right edge in left-to-right book (left edge in right-to-left book)

Edit Page Title

Click page title on the bottom.

In "Edit Page Title" screen, you can change title, font type, font size, color, etc.

Manage Pages

Click "Pages" button on the toolbar.

In "Pages" screen, double click the page thumbnail to edit the page.

Use mouse to right click the page thumbnail and contextual menu is shown.

In menu, you can edit page title, mark as draft (or remove draft flag), copy or delete page.

Multiple selection is allowed.

To change ordering, drag items and drop them to the desired destination.

Add New Element

On the middle of toolbar, there are 5 icons: Text, Image, File, Microphone, Tool.

Text icon: You can add title, paragraph, markdown, or HTML element.

Image icon: You can select single or multiple images from harddisk

File icon: You can select single or multiple files that CBB supports, e.g. videos, audios, pdf, etc.

Microphone icon: You can add audio recording here.

Tool icon: You can add read aloud, table of contents, link, equation (LaTeX), external widget.

You can click "Paste" to insert elements if they are copied before.

Add New Element

Add New Paragraph

Click "Text" icon on toolbar and then click "Paragraph" to launch Rich Text Editor.

Besides changing style of content, you can add bulleted list, numbered list, equation, link.

Add New Photo

Click "Image" icon on toolbar, and then select images.

After adding image, double click item to launch Photo Settings.

You can add alternative text or link and change alignment.

Add New Video

Click "File" icon on toolbar, and select video (mp4, mov, etc.)

After adding video, double click item to launch Video Settings.

You can change display type, title, description and alignment.

Add New Audio Recording

Click "Microphone" icon on the top toolbar.

In "Audio Recording" screen, click "Microphone" button to start recording. When recording is finished, click "Stop" button to stop recording.

Click "Settings" icon to change audio recording's settings.

Manage Elements

Double click element to edit elememt.

Use mouse to right click element and contextual menu is shown.

In menu, you can edit, cut, copy or delete element.

You can also bring element to front, send element to back, change position of the element and lock element.

To rotate element, just drag rotate icon on the top left corner of the element.

To resize element, just drag black square icon on the bottom right corner of the element.

Click "More" icon on toolbar and then click "Book Information".

In "Book Information" screen, you can change book title, author, language, subject, identifier, publisher, rights and published date.

Edit Book Style

Click "More" icon on toolbar and then click "Book Style".

In "Book Style" screen, you can change global font name, font size, line height, text indentation, or even text direction.

Publish Book

When finishing your writing, click "Export" icon (rightmost) on toolbar and a contextual menu is shown.

In menu, click "Export As EPUB" to export book as EPUB file. Click "Export As PDF" to export book as PDF file.

After book generation is completed, "Save As" system dialog is shown. Change destination and filename if necessary.

Publish Book

After saving file to the destination, "Save Book" screen is shown.

You can open EPUB or PDF in finder or iBooks by clicking corresponding buttons.

Tips

Use mouse to right click items. You can find many actions when contextual menu is shown.
Hold Shift or Command key and use mouse to select multiple items.
Use mouse to drag and drop pages and elements to change ordering.
In paragraph editor, you can paste text by Command + V key and plain text is inserted by default because complex HTML code may make the content invalid. If you want to paste HTML content, click "More" icon on the toolbar and then click "Paste HTML".
In paragraph editor, you can use the following hot keys:

Command + b: make the selected text bold
Command + i: make the selected text italic
Command + u: make the selected text underline
Command + z: undo
Command + y: redo
Command + a: select all text
